RALLY TO REMEMBER SCHOOL SHOOTING VICTIMS
6th anniversary of Parkland
Where: Corner of W. State St. and Front St., Fremont
When: Wednesday, Feb. 14, 4:00 – 5:00 pm
BROKEN HEARTS, BROKEN LIVES: 394 school shootings since Columbine.
6 years after the tragic school shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Feb. 14, 2018, concerned Fremont-area residents will gather at the corner of W. State St. and N. Front St. in Fremont on Wednesday, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm, to call for efforts to keep our children safe from gun violence.
Residents will stand in solidarity with the Parkland victims and the victims of all the 394 school shootings that have taken place in the U.S. since the mass shooting at Columbine in 1999. They will call attention to the fact that gun violence is the NUMBER ONE killer of American children.
More than 360,000 students nationwide have experienced gun violence in their schools since Columbine. Communities are left dealing with long-lasting trauma.
The demonstration calls for the following:
• Require safe and secure storage of firearms.
• Reduce easy access to dangerous weapons.
• Establish a culture of gun safety.
• Expand access to high quality mental health supports.
• Recognize gun violence as a critical and preventable public health problem.
The demonstration is sponsored by People for Peace & Justice Sandusky County.
